Our mission is to make solar and renewable energy more accessible throughout the world! We offer knowledge, consultancy, education, and networking solutions for the renewable energy industry in both established and emerging markets across the globe. With 35+ young, ambitious, and highly-educated people from 15 different countries on the team, we work to accelerate the energy transition from our Rotterdam office.
If you join our team as a business developer, you share responsibility for creating the financial foundation for successful conferences and trade missions by identifying and involving companies as sponsors and partners of these events. Additionally, you are involved in the execution of the conferences by ensuring that we deliver what our partners expect.
What does a day at the office look like as a Business Developer?
You start your day with the team, checking in over a coffee while sharing your plans and goals for the day. That morning, you have a call scheduled with an existing partner who is sponsoring the next conference in Madrid. They would like to hear from you about which clients you can introduce them to at the event. After following up over email, you are finalising a list of interested companies for your meeting with Edwin and Alfonso to discuss a new event. Lunchtime is at La Cantina while going over your colleagues’ weekend plans. You have a call with a potential sponsor for the upcoming event in the afternoon. After explaining how Solarplaza could help them grow their network, they request the first proposal. You draft the initial quote in Salesforce and check-in with Lorena, the project manager for Spain to see if she can still incorporate them into the conference program. After responding to some last emails, you call it a day and cycle home.
How will you create value for our customers?
Develop, expand and maintain relationships with leading players in the renewable energy space.
Create appropriate propositions based on sales- and acquisition plans.
Develop and maintain a customer and prospect database.
Act as the first point of contact towards partners and clients.
Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from marketing activities.
Respond to and follow up on enquiries by email, phone, and personal visits (e.g. international trade shows).
Keeping up to date with industry developments through webinars, articles, and newsletters.
Identifying and developing win-win solutions: commercial opportunities that help clients.
Speaking with contacts in the market to gain direct market intelligence.
Actively suggest opportunities to help sponsors increase ROI.
Build (personal) deep relationships.
Expand collaborations by up-and cross-selling to other events.
Who are we looking for?
A Master’s degree.
3 to 5 years of experience in either a Business development or sales role, preferably with a focus on closing sponsorship opportunities and/or new partnerships.
Who lives in the Netherlands and has a valid work permit.
Experience with working in an international business environment.
Affinity with or interest in the (renewable) energy industry.
Experience with event sales is a plus.
Experience with sales(force) CRM is a plus.
Native or fluent in English, including experience in high-level business discussions & negotiations.
You are a born networker with a curious mind.
You have a hands-on mentality and are a great self-starter.
The ability to spot new commercial opportunities and act on them comes naturally to you.
